Steel Pipe Falls From Deutsche Bank Building Injuring Two Firemen

Demolition work at the former Deutsche Bank building was put on hold due to a steel pipe falling from the 40 story building into a neighboring firehouse.

The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation says the 15-foot piece of steel fell from the 35th floor of the building, which is in the process of being taken down.

The steel pipe pierced the roof of the Engine 10 Ladder 10 building, sending depris into the eyes of two firemen.

The accident occured as workers were cutting the pipe.

The bank was severly damaged during the 9/11 attacks, and there were major concerns about tearing it down because of contamination.

The cleanup of the building began in 2005 and workers began dismantling the building late last year.

The injured firefighters have been treated and released.

The construction company has been issued a violation for failing to secure the pipe.
